Decorating for a Spa birthday party is half the fun!

Next up is to let your friends know they are in for the night of their lives as they make their way to your door. The best way to do this is with great spa party decorations.

Decorating your spa birthday is fun and easy. Start your decorations right out your front door with a glittery sign for your spa and fun "spa-only" parking signs.

Additional outside spa party decoration ideas are to hang pink, green and white balloons on your mailbox and along the walkway.

You could also decorate the driveway with chalk pictures of flowers and "Welcome to my Spa" "you're steps away from total relaxation".

Decorating the party area is just as fun and easy. You don't need much. Just a splash here and there to keep the spa birthday party theme going. Make signs with spa sayings and inspirational quotes in silver glitter glue on colored paper to hang throughout the party area.

To set the relaxed mood of a spa play gentle music. Burn scented candles (make sure to be very careful around open flames). Dim the lights. Have fresh flowers and hang balloons & streamers in pink, green and white.

Use spa theme or pink & green plates, napkins, utensils, table covers.

spa birthday party ideas for activities

Now that you've got the atmosphere all spa-like it's on to the main event...

Pampering and beauty are the goals of this luxurious spa birthday party evening. Before you get started on your night of beauty you will want to do a few things first. Check out this To Do List.

For spa party activities, you'll want to have a variety of spa treatments and a game or two to entertain your guests. My favorites for a spa birthday party are:

This is a great start to a night of fabulous spa party activities. There is nothing quite so mesmerizing as staring at all the black dots of gunk that just came out of your very own pores. Nasty right? Try it you'll see what I mean.

This recipe makes a pore cleaning "strip" which works just like those sold in popular drugstores.

  • 1 T Knox unflavored gelatin
  • 1-1/2 T milk

Mix two ingredients and microwave for 10 seconds to slightly warm. Using a clean cosmetic brush, apply to nose and chin area. Avoid delicate eye area.

Rinse brush immediately. Allow mixture on nose and chin to dry for 10-15 minutes. Mixture will dry quite stiff and form a "stiff film." Peel off the film and stare at all the little porcupine quills that used to be in your nose pores (one of the chief entertainment factors with B'Strips!).

Next up at this spa birthday party is some facial refreshment. This face mask is a must for spa party activities. Grapefruit and parsley are both effective and refreshing astringents.

  • 3 tablespoons very fine oatmeal (whirl oatmeal in a food processor, if necessary)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1/2 large grapefruit - (or since you are making it for a large group use store purchased fresh squeezed - I won't tell!)
  • olive or sunflower oil
  • Optional: cucumber slices

Mix 3 tablespoons of very fine oatmeal with two tablespoons of chopped parsley in a bowl. Add juice from half of a large grapefruit until you have a soft paste. Let the mixture rest 5 minutes. Spread soft mixture over your face.

Optional: put a slice of cucumber over each eye as you let your mask dry - very soothing and relaxing.(Soak cucumber slices in hot water for two hours to soften - then refrigerate until use)

Let dry for approximately 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Follow with toner (see Rosewater Toner) and moisturizer (see Chocolate Face Mask).

Keep in mind that this recipe makes one mask. Multiply ingredients by the number of masks you need. You can prepare the oatmeal and parsley a day in advance. Wait to add the grapefruit juice and oil until you are about to do the mask.

It is fun to have each guest at your spa birthday party prepare her own. The girls will get a kick out of preparing some of the treatments in the spa party activities.

Rosewater can be used as a facial toner during your spa party activities. It is also lovely added to bath water.

  • 2 cups firmly packed rose petals. (Ask for organic roses. You don't want pesticides on your face. - Wash petals quickly to remove any dirt)
  • 4 cups boiling distilled water

Place rose petals in large bowl or pot. Cover petals with the boiling water and steep until liquid cools. Strain and then squeeze any remaining liquid from the rose petals into a sterilized jar. Cover and refrigerate.

To use soak cotton pads or splash on face.

As a moisturizer you can rub a small amount of jojoba oil directly onto your face while it is still wet from the rosewater. The water is important in making the oil a moisturizer so if your face has dried splash some water on it first.

After the oil has been rubbed in gently dab a towel on your face to dry as necessary. As part of this list of spa party activities though I recommend using a Chocolate Face Mask as a decadent moisturizer instead.

As far as spa party activities go it can't get more fun than putting chocolate on your face. So here we go!

This decadent mask is actually an excellent moisturizer -- it leaves your skin baby soft.

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp. heavy cream
  • 2 tsp. cottage cheese
  • ΒΌ cup honey
  • 3 tsp. oatmeal
  • optional: cucumber slices

Mix all ingredients together (a bullet blender is ideal) and smooth onto face. Optional: place a cucumber slice over each eye (Soak cucumber slices in hot water for two hours to soften - then refrigerate until use) Relax for ten 10 minutes, then wash off with warm water. Throw cucumber slices away.

Keep in mind that this recipe makes one mask. Multiply ingredients by the number of masks you need. This one can be made two hours or so before use and kept in the refrigerator. Make sure to remix before use.

Alternately it is lots of fun to make each mask as you need it at the spa birthday party and apply it right out of the blender.

These spa party activities are moving from the face to the hands & feet. Why should baby soft skin stop on your face?

Strawberries contain a natural fruit acid which aids in exfoliation.

  • 8-10 Strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons Apricot Oil (you may substitute olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon of coarse salt, such as Kosher Salt, or Sea Salt

Mix together all ingredients into a paste, massage into hands and feet, rinse, and pat dry. Or as a moisturizer you can rub a small amount of jojoba oil directly onto your hands and face while they are still wet from the treatment.

The water is important in making the oil a moisturizer so if your hands & feet have dried splash some water on them first. After the oil has been rubbed in gently dab a towel on your hands & feet to dry as necessary.

Keep in mind that this recipe makes enough for one use. Multiply ingredients by the number of guests participating in your spa party activities. This one can be made two hours or so before use and kept in the refrigerator.

Make sure to remix before use as part of your spa party activities. Alternately it is lots of fun to make each treatment as you need it. Mixing it by hand or spoon in a small bowl.

Making Body Spray is a favorite of spa party activities and great take-home gift for your guests.

  • 1 - 2 TBLS Food Flavor Extract (vanilla or lemon work great - try others and see what you like - have a number for your guests to choose from)
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 2 tsp Glycerine
  • clean small spray bottles (enough for each guest)
  • optional: 1 -2 drops food color
  • optional: peel and stick blank labels and cool stickers

Combine the food flavor extract, distilled water and glycerine in a spray bottle. Add the food coloring if you choose to do so.

Name your body spray whatever funky name you like. Put the name on the peel and stick label and place on your bottle. Decorate as you like with cool stickers.

Yet another great take-home gift to remember doing all these fantastic spa party activities at your birthday. Remember to shake before each use.

Have fun painting each other's finger and toe nails.

  • A variety of fun nail polish colors
  • Nail polish remover
  • Cotton swabs.

Remember to clean your freshly moisturized nails with nail polish remover or the nail polish won't stick.

spa birthday party games

This spa birthday party now needs a fun party game or two to round out the list of spa party activities.

This game is very much like freeze dance but think of it as Freeze and Paint Your Toes. Girls sit in a circle. Several girls have a bottle of nail polish (use a variety of different colors).

Music is played and everyone starts to pass the polishes around the circle in the same direction. When the music stops each girl with polish paints one toe nail.

Music starts again and the polish is passed. When music stops each girl with polish paints one toe nail.

The first girl to get all her toes painted wins and steps out of the circle. The game continues until each guest at your spa birthday party has all toes painted.

Materials needed:

  • A variety of fun nail polish colors
  • Radio or CD player.

NOTE: Remember to clean freshly moisturized nails with nail polish remover first or the nail polish won't stick.

This game is an old fashioned clothes swap. Everyone has that shirt or skirt or scarf that they never wear. Maybe you just don't have anything that matches it. Maybe you don't look good in brown. So it sits in a drawer unloved and unused collecting dust.

Tell all your friends to bring those misfit clothes to your party. Lay everything out in store fashion. Everyone gets to go swapping. It's like shopping but no money.

Swap that totally unworn brown polka dot scarf from Aunt Elanor for that yellow top that would go great with your new skirt. Hey look! Aunt Elanor's scarf looks gorgeous with Tiffany's green eyes. Who would have guessed?

A Spa Birthday Cake can be really fun to make. A truly fantastic spa birthday party needs a great cake.

Chocolate Face Mask Cake

Remember the Chocolate Face Mask from the spa party activities and games? Here you make a cake that honors this decadent spa treatment.

Cut a large oval from a sheet cake. This will be the face. Decorate with chocolate frosting. Place two slices of cucumber where the eyes should be or use lime gel candies to represent the cucumbers.

Using the left over cake place a piece where the nose should go and frost with chocolate frosting. Use red or pink frosting to make the lips.

Using spray whipped cream make the towel on the top of the head or let chocolate frosting harden some and use an actual small clean towel.

Note: If you don't like chocolate then color vanilla frosting green and call it a Sea Weed Wrap Cake!

spa birthday party ideas for good eats and treats

Choose foods that are fresh and tasty!

Try these:

Veggie Head

  • Hollow out a head of red cabbage and fill with organic veggie dip of your choice.
  • Place pieces of carrot, cucumber, green pepper, red pepper and grape tomatoes on wooden skewers like kabobs.
  • Stick the veggie kabobs into the side of the cabbage until it looks like a porcupine!

Organic Pizza

  • Buy organic pizza crusts, organic pizza sauce and organic mozzarella cheese.
  • Make pizzas topped with any organic topping of your choosing.

Organic Junk Food

  • In the health food isle of your grocery store you should be able to find organic junk food of every kind - cookies, chips, brownies, even ice cream!

And to drink, serve organic fruit juices mixed with seltzer water! A refreshing alternative to soda pop. Milk or spring water are also great, healthy choices!

Spa Pool Party

At this spa birthday party you and your best pals do all the spa birthday party games and activities beside a refreshing swimming pool!

Mother-Daughter Night Out

I love this spa party so much. Do not feel limited to keeping it to a birthday party. Just grab a group of girls and have one just because you want to get together for some girl bonding.

It is the perfect, fun idea for a group mother-daughter get-together. The daughters can get pampered by the moms then reverse the roles. Adults may want to mix in an adult beverage or two for the grown-ups only.

How to handle siblings at your spa birthday party

Siblings are great most of the time. You have someone to play with, a lifelong friend and someone to blame for the wet towel on the bathroom floor. But they can be hit or miss at a spa birthday party especially brothers. My advice is get them involved.

Some great ideas for siblings at a spa birthday party are to have them join right in the fun as a spa-goer or as a treatment specialist during the spa party activities if you want. Or explain to them that this is a special night for you and your friends and that you really need their help preparing for it.

Let them help prep the ingredients and treatments. Check out the To Do List for pre-party prep checklist. Put on some upbeat music and clown around together as your siblings and you prepare for your big party. Make it a fun event. Take pictures and include it as the official start to your birthday.

Being involved early in the planning will give them something to do and feel a part of things. Then enlist a friend or family member to take your sibling out for the night of your party. It really helps if it is to someplace you'd love to go but will have to miss. Then get together the next day and tell each other all about your fun nights.

Remember that your siblings love you and just want to feel a part of the party. Be creative with your spa party sibling ideas and get them involved. You'll be surprised at how much they can add to your party.
